Cellphone directory needed

THIS is apropos of R. Lodhi’s letter (Jan 30). I remember that the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority had asked all cellular mobile companies a couple of years ago to either print a directory or upload details of both post-and pre-paid subscribers on their websites. But for some strange reason, only known to cellular companies, the suggestion was turned down.

It would be advisable for cellular companies to educate themselves with the fact that hidden things always lead to speculation, misuse and corruption, making society morally degraded.

Cellular companies can learn so much from websites of other countries that proudly invite new users, asking them to check their subscriber base before making any decision to use their services. The names of prominent people using the service are enough for a new user to decide.

It is time cellular companies learnt something and contributed in a worthy way towards improving society rather than just making people stay awake the whole night for nothing.
