ISLAMABAD- The Norway-based Scandinavian Satellite System (SSS) has filed a case in a US court against PTV Managing Director Yousaf Baig, and London-based Prime TV for infringing a copyright agreement.
The company accused the PTV MD of working against the interests of Pakistan. It claimed that it held the exclusive license for PTV programmes outside Pakistan because of PTV’s Licence Agreement with “Sports Star International” (SSI). SSS has maintained that SSI, in which PTV Managing Director Yousaf Baig Mirza is believed to hold an interest, was granted exclusive licence by the PTV.
It said that since SSS is a copyright owner of PTV programming, the importation of PTV programming and distributing directly into USA by another company named Prime TV was infringing on the exclusive rights if the plaintiff company. The plaintiff has requested the court to stop Prime TV from airing the programmes, declare the SSS as the owner of the copyright of PTV programming as per the contract, and award damages including lawyer’s fees.
