CAP demands 50pc fee waiver

LAHORE — The convention of Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (CAP) was held here at a local hotel on Friday.

A large number of representatives of CAP from across the county were present on the occasion. They said Pemra should categorise the cities according to the population. They said some TV channels were airing fake news against cable operators and if they would not stop it, CAP will fight to protect their rights. They said they had the facility to run the transmission of 50 channels whereas Pemra had issued licence to 122 channels.

They further said Pemra had announced to digitalise the system in recent year, demanding to increase the time limit and decrease the tax on the import of digital gadgets.

The representatives including CAP Chairman Khalid Araen and Captain (r) Jabbar demanded of the Pemra to decrease fee by 50 percent. They also slammed the Pemra saying they paid foreign TV channels regularly but it had given the rights of airing big event of Cricket World Cup to only one channel. They claimed that they were the fifth pillar of the state, having awareness about freedom of media. They said Pemra should ensure the security and rights of cable operators.
