Cable operators warned of airing Indian channels
KARACHI- The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has warned cable TV operators to stop airing banned Indian TV channels and movies on CDs and DVDs or showing them on their networks.
The PEMRA said that it would take action against such cable operators under PEMRA Section 33 (2) of its Ordinance 2002. The PEMRA said punishment for violating the ordinance was three years imprisonment or a fine, or it could be both. The authority said that it had found that some cable TV operators were displaying Indian TV channels, besides they were also showing Indian movies on their networks, which under existing ordinance are totally banned.
