MULTAN: Police arrested Cable Operator Association (CAP) Punjab General Secretary Tahir Javed Chaudhry on the charges of threatening and attacking Pemra staff and interfering in official duties.

Tahir was arrested at a local hotel in Gulberg Sunday and later transported to Multan. Pemra’s Regional General Manager Saeed Ahmed Sheikh had complained to Thana Gulgasht that Tahir had started transmission by laying cable illegally in the areas of Basti Malook, Larr and 5 Faiz, and has defaulted on 755,000 rupees. When action was taken against him, he approached the office along with his companions and hurled abuses and death threats at the staff. Tahir also hurled death threats at senior staffer Elahi Bakhsh if he was denied a new licence in Qadir Puran.

He said Tahir had been intimidating the staffers for last six months. Police registered case against him under article 35 of Pemra Act and under sections 353, 186 and 506 on June 17. Tahir had been hiding in a hotel where police arrested him. He will be produced in the court today. A close relative of Tahir Javed claimed that a fake case was registered against Tahir. He was certain that after inquiry the case would be proved fake and Tahir would be freed.
