Cabinet proposes regularisation of employees on daily wages

ISLAMABAD: A sub-committee of the federal cabinet proposed regularising all daily wages and contract (DWC) employees of the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Thursday at a meeting that was held to review the issue of NHAÂ’s DWC employees’ regularisation.

Committee members decided to regularise the DWC employees after being briefed about regularisation of DWC employees in various public and private departments.

According to details, the sub-committee was informed that the contract employees who had completed at least two years of their contract service until January 2011 or more would soon be regularised. Later on, speaking with reporters, Communications Minister Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan Khalil said that despite financial constraints and other problems, the Pakistan People’s Party-led government had taken the historic step, which would improve economic conditions of DWC employees.

The regularisation would definitely put extra burden on the NHA but the step would benefit poor families of the country, the minister said. He added that despite the numerous problems, the government intended to provide relief to the people.
