Bureau office of Urdu daily ransacked

HYDERABAD- About one dozen armed men barged into the office of “Daily Ummat” located on the second floor of circular building on Risala road at about 8:30 pm, ransacked the office, broke the furniture, computers, television, fax machine and telephone sets, beat up two persons Lala and Shahid and escaped from the scene issuing threats of dire consequences.

The Bureau Chief, Mr. Abdul Hafeez Abid, was not present in the office during the attack. When this correspondent visited the Ummat Bureau, he found all the equipment broken on the floor and every thing was topsy-turvy in the office.

Mr. Hafeez said that he had been receiving telephonic threats and had informed the high-ups of police for posting police guard at the office but nothing was done. It may be recalled here that on the night of July 16 last five bullets were pumped into the body of Mr. Abdul Hafeez Abid and his son had also received bullet injuries when he was about to start his motorcycle after leaving his office at Al-Rahim Centre.

CONDEMNED: The president of the Hyderabad press club Lala Rehman Samoon, general secretary, Ansar Naqvi, joint secretary Junaid Khanzada and members of the governing body have condemned the attack on the Ummat bureau office and demanded of the authorities to arrest the accused without delay.
