Bundles of The News, Jang burnt in Karachi

KARACHI: Armed miscreants kidnapped the driver of a newspaper distribution van along with the vehicle and gutted thousands of newspapers in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the police, Sardar, the driver of the Jang Group, left the printing press with bundles of The News and Jang newspapers for circulation in the city.Unidentified armed motorcyclists stopped the truck and set ablaze the bundles of newspapers and fled the scene The police on getting the information reached the scene and extinguished the fire. The circulation van was saved from being burnt but the newspapers were burnt to ashes.

After receiving information of the incident, the Jang Group printed additional copies of Jang and The News.The driver who was later set free by kidnappers said that the miscreants said they were annoyed with the Jang Group and they would teach it a lesson.

It is pertinent to mention that some armed motorcyclists smashed windows of Geo News satellite van and resorted to firing outside the office on Tuesday morning. They had also cut-off cable wires in different areas and the technicians sent for repair were threatened.The journalists’ organizations condemned the firing on DSNG van of Geo TV, burning of newspaper bundles and severing of cable network across the city.
