BSO-Azad ends boycott of newspapers, TV channels

By Saleem Shahid

QUETTA: The Baloch Students Organisation-Azad announced on Wednesday that it had ended its boycott of national newspapers and TV channels after a meeting with representatives of Balochistan Editors Council and Quetta Press Club.

The group had earlier announced that it would block distribution of all newspapers, except two local dailies, in the Baloch-dominated areas of the province and warned cable operators against transmitting TV channels in protest against what it called the biased policy of media organisations. It accused national newspapers and TV channels of not giving due coverage to problems of Balochistan.

During the meeting, Salam Sabir and Waheed Baloch of BSO-Azad apprised the representatives of the council and press club about their grievances. They were assured that their grievances would be addressed. It was decided that all issues would be mutually resolved and efforts would be made to promote good relations between the media and political organisations.

The meeting was also attended by bureau chiefs of some media organisations.
