Brothers kill two young sisters

NAWABSHAH: Two teenaged sisters were shot dead by their brothers on Wednesday over a matrimonial dispute in Shahpur Jehanian.

The two brothers, Allah Bughio and Aijaz Bughio, killed their sisters Ms Noorjehan, 17, and Ms Zohra, 15, as the girls were not willing to break their engagements though they were engaged to the men of their family’s choice.

Supervising Police Officer of Qazi Ahmed Mir Mulazim Hussain Talpur told Dawn that one of the sisters was alive and shifted to a hospital in critical condition where she later died.

The SPO suspected the statement of the mother of deceased girls that they had committed suicide and he directed the SHO Doultpur of further investigation after which their two brothers were arrested.

The SPO said that the accused also tried to burn the girls as superficial burn injuries were found on the body of one of them.

He said that initial investigations revealed the girls were engaged to their relatives but later some dispute arose when their family wanted to break the engagement and marry them to some other men but the girls opposed it.

However further investigations were under way.

The bodies were first brought to the Rural Health Centre Shahpur Jehanian and later shifted to Doulatpur for post-mortem.

Dr Khalida who did the autopsy said that both suffered firearm injuries and Zohra also had superficial burn injuries on hands, arms and face.

DPO Pervez Umrani said that the accused were in custody and police were waiting for someone from the family to lodge an FIR.

However if no one comes forward, police would register the FIR on behalf of state, he said.
