LAHORE: A young woman, who eloped with her former husband after her second marriage, was gunned down by her younger brother, as she returned home after spending a few days with him.

Lower Mall police station duty officer Nisar Ahmed told Daily Times that the deceased Saiqa, 22 a resident of Lower Mall married a person, Majid, about three years ago and the couple had a one-year-old child as well. Later, a few months after the birth of their child, differences occurred between the couple and the family elders often had to intervene to resolve the issues. However, around eight months ago, the couple fought again after which Majid divorced Saiqa. She returned home and her parents about three months ago, got her married again with a person named Akram.

Around a month back, Majid contacted Saiqa and convinced her to meet him. She agreed and after a few meetings, Saiqa got back into a relationship with Majid, and three days before Eidul Fitr, they both eloped from their houses.

Saiqa’s family members, including her brother, searched for them and convinced Saiqa to return to her parent’s home.

On Tuesday, Saiqa agreed and returned to her parentÂ’s house. When she got back, her family asked her about her relationship with her former husband. This infuriated Saiqa and she told her family that she wanted a divorce form her second husband (Akram) and wanted to marry Majid again.

After hearing this, Saiqa’s younger brother Irfan, tried to convince her against remarrying Majid, but she refused. Irfan got furious at this and tried to beat Saiqa, but her parents stopped him.

However, after some time Irfan confronted Saiqa again, this time with a pistol. They argued again upon which the brother suddenly fired at Saiqa, and as a result she died on the spot, while Irfan succeeded to escape from the scene.

After being informed, a police team reached the scene and sent the body to the city morgue for an autopsy and started an investigation after registering a case against Irfan on the complaint of the deceased’s mother Hussan Bano.
