British High Commissioner says Pakistan Press is free

ISLAMABAD- British High Commissioner Hilary Synott said, the Press in Pakistan enjoys freedom and people can express their views independently.

“The Pakistani Press is free and contains democratic expression of people’s sentiments,” he stated while inaugurating a photo exhibition at the National Art Gallery.

In this context, he also referred to two Press seminars organized by the British High Commission, which provided and opportunity to journalists to hold in depth debates on media affairs. He appreciated the excellence of photo-journalism works put on display.

“These are excellent works, the result of a series of workshops held by the British Council to sharpen up qualities of photo journalism in Pakistan. They depict a wide variety of subjects in an impressive way.

He lauded the British Council for forging constructive partnerships with the people, saying the opportunity of “working together” benefits the participants enormously.

Synott appreciated a number of activities undertaken by the British Council including holding examinations and award of scholarships to suitable candidates after a rigorous process of selection.
