Books donated to Karachi Press Club library
KARACHI: The Karachi Press Club (KPC) was presented a series of books, penned by renowned academics and experts in the relevant fields, by the Oxford University Press (OUP) on Thursday.
The books donated happen to be OUP’s ‘Platinum Series’, comprising over 70 titles focusing on Pakistan and covering a broad spectrum of disciplines from history, gender studies, economics, sociology, and politics to literature, art, culture, anthropology and much more introduced by the OUP in celebration of Pakistan’s 70th anniversary.
Thanking OUP for the books, KCP library committee secretary Saeed Khawar said that the books would truly add value to the library. “KPC is the hub of journalists covering a vast number of beats and having access to such a broad spectrum of books is definitely a positive way towards responsible journalism,” he said.
Highlighting the importance of education, literature and culture, KPC secretary Arman Sabir said that it all required collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, including the government, regulators, academia, the media fraternity and the private sector. “It is only when we have synchronised our efforts that we will be able to combat the rising education crisis in the country,” he said.
Stressing upon the importance of education, KPC president Mohammad Imtiaz Khan Faran said that the spread of literature was the first step towards socioeconomic growth for Pakistan. “This will lead to education quality and standards. I would like to thank OUP for such a significant contribution to our library,” he concluded.
OUP’s managing director Arshad Saeed Husain said that he was glad to be presenting their Platinum Series to the KPC library.
