Body formed for residential colony of journalists

In this regard he asked the concerned authorities to finalise and submit its report within 10 days period. This announcement he made in a meeting with a delegation of journalists headed by M. Riaz Khan President-elect of Peshawar Press Club at Civil Officers Mess Peshawar on Thursday.

The meeting besides the newly elected cabinet and governing body members of the Press Club, senior journalists including Rahimullah Yousafzai, Faizur Rahman and Shamim Shahid were also attended the meeting. Besides, District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali, Secretary Local Council Board Rahmat Ghazi, Additional Secretary LG Mohammad Tayyab and other concerned authorities were also present on the occasion.

On this occasion, the newly elected president of Peshawar Press club briefed the minister about the problems and hardships being faced by the journalist community and underlined the need of announcing a housing scheme by the Provincial Government on pattern of Punjab and Sindh.

The Provincial Minister said that the MMA Government believed in freedom of the media. The minister assured the delegation of his support in resolving the problems of the working journalists. He said that the Chief Minister was taking personal interest in resolving difficulties of the journalist community including their residential problems as well as providing them maximum facilities in discharging their professional obligations. He said that Mr Akram Durrani had already issued clear directives in this regard and concrete steps would be taken in future for this purpose.

Sardar Idrees said that Provincial Government would provide all possible assistance in the great task of establishing residential schemes for journalist community. He assured that Provincial Govt would encourage the print and electronic media at every stage and would make effort to solve every problem faced by the people associated with this noble profession.

The minister constituted a 7-member committee led by Provincial Secretary LG Dr Hamad Awais Agha to locate a suitable site for housing scheme of media community and evolving modus operandi for this purpose as well as submit report within 10 days for onward approval of the chief minister.

Members of the committee included Provincial Information Secretary Ahsanullah, District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali, DCO Captain (R) Jahanzeb, DG. CD&MD Engr. Sareer Ahmed, President Peshawar Press Club M.Riaz and senior journalist Ismail Khan. The President-elect and other members of Peshawar Press Club thanked the Provincial Government for initiating practical steps in respect of solving the long standing residential problems of journalist community.
