Board constituted to redraft Sindh Information Technology ordinance

KARACHI- Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro constituted Sindh Information Technology Board (SITB) to redraft information technology ordinance and create an atmosphere conducive to public-private partnership for IT promotion.

The main aim of the SITB will be to provide direction to the private sector, evolve a public-private partnership, provide consistent and efficient architecture for an electronic government, and formulate a strategy for training of the educated and employed IT professionals to bring them at par with the international standard.

The terms of reference of this board will be to redraft the IT ordinance and suggest alternatives to meet the provincial requirement, provide a visible start to IT promotion in the province, set the stage for the province to utilise funds allocated for IT by the federal government, determine the activities that should be undertaken on preferential basis, frame policies for the promotion of IT on most practical lines, and suggest facilities to be provided by the provincial government for the promotion of IT.

The Governor will head the board. Its vice-chairman will be the minister for finance, planning and development, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. Other members of the board are an IT expert from the USA, Safi Qureshi, Site Association nominee Syed Khursheed Akber Shah, Mazhar Ali Khan, Nasir Bokhari of Khadim Ali Shah Bokhari, Managing Director Wajahat Sohail, Chairman and CEO of Engro-Asahi Chemicals Asad Umer, Irfan Siddiqui of Al-Mezan Bank, Dr Jawaid Leghari of SZABIST, Deputy Director IBA Syed Irfan Haider, Chancellor of lqra University Hunaid Lakhani, Mehboob Mehmood, Jawwad Rehman of Microsoft, Khurram Rafiq, Himayoun Bashir Ahmed, of Oracle, and Sindh Secretary Services and General Administration Iftikhar Ahmed.

Official members of the board are Sindh Minister for Industries Dewan Mohammed Yousuf, Sindh Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Hussain, Additional Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Kazi, and secretary finance.

A full time director will be appointed to look after the board’s activities. The secretariat of the board will be Located in the P&D Department.
