Blast shatters CD, other shops in Mardan
MARDAN: A powerful blast at the Nehar Chowk area destroyed a CD centre and some other shops on Friday morning.
Police said that a local-made bomb was planted near a CD shop owned by Imtiaz Khan at the Nehar Chowk, Par Hoti, which went off in the morning, destroying the CD centre and some other shops.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident. Meanwhile, Mardan District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Iqbal Khan Yousufzai said that the police on Thursday foiled a sabotage bid ahead of the Muharram procession in the city.
He made this revelation during a press conference at his office on Friday. Yousufzai claimed that the Ashura procession was saved from a tragedy as the police took strict security measures for Muharram.
The DPO said that at the time of the departure of the procession from the Imambargah at Bicket Gunj on Friday, a bomb was recovered from a garbage heap in front of the gate of the Imambargah. The Bomb Disposal Squad was called, which defused the 5 kg explosive device.
