‘Biodiversity vital for survival of mankind’

Environment-alists at a function here on Tuesday said that ‘Conservation of biodiversity is vital for survival of mankind on earth’ and this message needs to be disseminated among all and sundry.

The function was arranged by Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here at Pakistan Forest Institute (PFI) in connection with celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity.

The International Day for Biological Diversity is being observed globally on May 22 to highlight why we need to stop the biodiversity loss if we were to sustain life on Earth. The function was attended by renowned environmentalists including Special Secretary Environment, Kamran Shah, Chief Conservator Wildlife Department, Syed Mubarak Ali Shah, Director General EPA, Dr Bashir Ahmad and others.

Theme of this year Biodiversity celebration was “Mainstreaming Biodiversity, Sustaining people and their livelihood”.Speaking on the occasion, Special Secretary Environment Kamran Shah said survival of biodiversity is imperative for survival of mankind. If biodiversity is not saved, it will endanger life of people.

He said the message about importance of biodiversity should be spread in every nook and corner of the country so that people could take care of environment and biodiversity.
