Banning YouTube

By: DR ALFRED CHARLES

THE government should lift the ban on YouTube because many people are suffering from the closure of this website, especially students who use it to compete assignments. It would be better to educate people that because of the offensive nature of the material, they should not access it.

The government should adopt a proper regulatory mechanism to handle such a situation in the future. The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority should immediately sign a contract with the owner of websites such as YouTube and Google to avoid another blanket blockade in the future following posting of some blasphemous material.

This is necessary in this age when we use different websites so frequently. It is strange that many countries have signed contract with the parent company and they are bound to stop access of certain sites on request. We should also adopt this mechanism as soon as possible to avoid this awkward situation in the future.
