Ban on media coverage of AJK Supreme Court: journalists stage token walkout from National Assembly proceedings

ISLAMABAD: Journalists staged a token walkout from National Assembly’s proceedings on Friday against the ban on media coverage of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Supreme Court’s proceedings.

Presiding officer, Abdul Qadir Patel asked Information Minister, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sheikh Aftab and Ayaz Amir to convince the journalists to end their boycott of proceedings.

Later, speaking on a point of order, Kaira told the house that journalists staged a walkout from the press gallery in protest against the imposition of ban on the media coverage of the proceedings of the AJK’s apex court.

“The ban was imposed by the court and we could not interfere in judiciary’s matters,” he said. However, he assured the house that he would request the registrar of AJK Supreme Court to resolve the issue immediately. After an assurance from the minister, journalists called off their protest and returned to the press gallery.
