Ban on cinema & cable in Ramazan demanded

PESHAWAR – The North West Frontier Province assembly called on Thursday for a ban on cinemas and cable television during the holy month of Ramazan, officials said.

The call came in a resolution passed by the provincial assembly with a majority vote around a week before the start of the fasting month.

“This assembly recommends to the provincial government that during the holy month of Ramazan all cinema houses and cable TV should be closed,” said the resolution moved by a member of the ruling Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.

On the suggestion of a female member of the alliance, the resolution also recommended that airing of music should also be banned on radio and televisions during the month.

Opposition members voted against the resolution, saying such a step would deny them access to information.
