Bail plea dismissed in gang-rape case
KARACHI: An additional district and sessions judge (east) dismissed on Thursday a bail application of an accused in a case pertaining to the gang-rape of an 18-year-old woman on the premises of Mazar-i-Quaid.
An accountant of the mausoleum through his counsel moved the bail application, stating that neither the prosecution produced in court any solid evidence against him nor the victim identified him before the trial court and yet he was behind the bar for the last one and half years.
Public prosecutor Younus Baloch opposing the plea argued that the medical reports had confirmed the applicant’s involvement in the case.
According to the prosecution, an 18-year-old woman was subjected to sexual assault after being kidnapped on the premises of the mausoleum by five unidentified men on the night between March 15 and March 16 last year. She was found in an unstable condition outside the mausoleum on March 17. On March 20, police arrested assistant manager security of the mausoleum for his alleged involvement in the case. Later, the accountant and a personal assistant to the resident engineer of the Quaid-i-Azam Management Board were arrested following the receipt of the DNA report that confirmed their involvement in the case.
