Autopsy shows Dera girl was killed for honour

PESHAWAR, April 19, 2005: The Dera Ismail Khan police believes the death of 19-year-old Qamarunnisa an outcome of honour killing. “The evidence suggests the case may be another case of honour killing”, Zulfiqar Ali Cheema, deputy inspector general police in Dera range told reporters on April 18.

The police have arrested the woman’s father and an uncle and searching for her brother, a suspect in the killing. Qamarrunisa, a resident of Kulachi town, had left her home on April 12 after a dispute over marriage. She was later allegedly killed and quietly buried.

The news came out in the local media and several human rights organizations demanded an inquiry into the death. On April 17, the police exhumed and the autopsy confirmed that she was shot in the head. The police had registered a case against father, uncle, and brother.
