Artist Jamil Fakhri passes away

LAHORE: Renowned film, TV and stage artist Jamil Fakhri died here on Thursday after protracted illness. He was 65.

The leading artist was in a state of shock since his eldest son was shot dead in the USA a few months ago. The artist had to his credit a large number of TV plays, stage appearances and some movies.

He can be remembered for his extraordinary performance in of the most popular TV series ‘Andhera Ujala’ where he appeared as Jaffer Hussain. Fakhri, who was a banker by profession, started his artistic career from a TV drama ‘Thanda Bokhar’.

The late artist has left behind a widow and three sons. His funeral prayers will be offered at his Ravi Road residence on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday expressed their grief and sorrow over the demise of the versatile artist. In his message to the bereaved family, the president conveyed his heartfelt condolence and sincere sympathies.

The president said that late Jamil Fakhri was a prominent TV/film artist, who had rendered invaluable services for the promotion of art in the country.

The prime minister also paid rich tributes to late Jamil Fakhri for his invaluable contribution and said that late Jamil Fakhri was a versatile artist of high caliber, whose various popular PTV plays and stage dramas would always remain alive in the hearts of millions of his fans in the country and abroad.

Both prayed to Almighty Allah to shower His blessings upon the departed soul and give strength to his family members to bear the irreparable loss with equanimity.
