Armed men storm Sindhi newspaper

KARACHI- A group of over 30 armed people allegedly belonging to the Sindh National Front (SNF) intruded on Thursday into the offices of Sindhi daily Awami Awaz and threatened its staff with dire consequences. Gun-wielding goons inquired about the whereabouts of Chief Editor Awami Awaz Dr Jabbar Khattak. They used abusive language against him and other editorial staff members of the newspaper.

They said that they had already conveyed such threats on behalf of their political party through telephone but the editorial management did not take it seriously. The gunmen said that they resorted to such action after the newspaper did not publish statements of SNF leader Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto. They also claimed that their armed activity had the blessing and backing of the SNF leader.
