APT symposium opens on April 18
SLAMABAD, April 18 2006: The Ministry of Information Technology will organise a three-day international symposium of the Asia Pacific Tele-community (APT) on “Telecommunications for Disaster Relief” from April 18 to 20. About 50 international delegates, stakeholders, telecom companies and senior government officials will attend the conference.
Federal Information Technology Minister Awais Ahmed Leghari will inaugurate the symposium, a private channel reported. The symposium will highlight the efforts of the telecom sector for providing telecommunication services in the quake-affected areas. Case studies would also be presented during the symposium.
The symposium will spread over 10 sessions discussing a wide range of issues, including an overview of recent disaster management network systems and proposals, activities of APT and other organisations, role of telecom operators and broadcasters, disaster management in APT countries, and mobilisation of resources for disaster management.
