Appeals in Pearl case to be heard on August 13

KARACHI: The three appeals, two by convicted accused and third by State in Daniel Pearl kidnapping and murder case will come up for hearing on August 13 before Anti Terrorism Appellate (ATA) bench of Sindh High Court (SHC).

The bench comprising Justice Mohammad Roshan Essani and Justice Mohammad Mujeebullah Siddiqui will hear the appeal filed by Ahmed Omar Shaikh who was sentenced to death by ATC for Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas division as the case trial was transferred to it for security reasons. Another appeal was filed by co-accused Fahad Nasim, Shaikh Adil and Salman Saquib against awarding of life terms to them in the case.

The third appeal was filed by the State through Advocate General Sindh seeking enhancement of life terms awarded to the accused into death sentence.

The appeals under the ATA are admitted as a matter of right and these appeals are likely to be admitted for regular hearing by the bench.

According to the daily list of the courts the appeals are fixed at number 4, 5 and 6.-APP
