APNS to hold annual awards ceremony

KARACIU: The All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) will hold its Annual Awards Ceremony on the earliest possible date in which the Chief Executive of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, would likely be the chief guest and give away awards to journalists, advertising agencies and advertisers in recognition of their high professional standards, said a press release of the APNS on Wednesday.

PNS, Arshad A Zuberi announced the categories, which constitute the 14th APNS Journalist Awards. Journalists/photographers/cartoonists of member publications have been asked to send in their entries in any one of the categories. The Editors/Chief Executive of member publications may also send the entries on behalf of their journalists for the contest. The entrants are not allowed to send entries for more than one category. The entries should have appeared in member publications of the APNS during the period January 1, 1997 and December 31, 1998. Every entry must be submitted with six copies not later than November 30, 1999. The categories are as under:

1. Best investigative report: open for all dailies and periodical publications.

2. Scoop of the year: open for daily publications only.

3. Best column: open for all dailies and periodical publications.

4. Best feature: open for periodical publications only.

5. Best article of the year 1997

6. Best cartoon: open to all cartoonists of member publications.

7. Best photograph: open to all photographers of member publications.

The photographs (6 copies each should be of standard size (10 inches X 12 inches).

The participants are required to send in three entries in any one category (six copies of each entry) published in member publications during the relevant period.

The entries must be submitted having composed/typed on separate sheets without giving the name of the author and publication and be sent along with a copy of tear sheet of the publication. For regional language entries, the entrants are required to submit Urdu/English translation of the entry.

For the ‘Scoop of the year’ category, the Editors of member publications are requested to send three such entries of their journalists, which they consider to be the Best Scoop published in their newspapers during the year, 1997 or 1998.

The Secretary General APNS has clarified that sending of the entries would be the responsibility of the individuals (Except the category ‘Scoop of the year’) and only in case where the names of participants do not appear in the by-line, the entry should be counter-signed by the competent authority in the publication.

All entries should be addressed to Dr ‘Tanvir A Tahir, Executive Director, APNS 32- Farid Chambers Abdullah Haroon Road, Karachi. Entries received after November 30, not be entertained.
