Pakistan Press Foundation

KARACHI: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS), while slamming the Federal Ombudsperson Kashmala Tariq for detaining, misbehaving and manhandling the Nawa-i-Waqt media team, has demanded that the prime minister take the notice of the incident and direct the federal ombudsperson to apologise publicly.

In a statement, APNS President Sarmad Ali and Secretary General Umer Mujib Shami said according to the press reports and details available on the social media Nawa-i-Waqt reporter Matiullah Jan along with the Nawa-i-Waqt team had arranged for an interview with the federal ombudsperson.

Kashmala Tariq got annoyed over the questions asked during the interview. Following which, the team was assaulted and harassed on the orders of Kashmala Tariq and their equipment was confiscated. The untoward incident is reflective of the uncivilized, undemocratic and intolerant behavior a person holding public office which is unacceptable. The office-bearers appealed to the prime minister to take notice of the incident and instruct the federal ombudsperson to apologise publicly.
