Another minister loses his job in Balochistan

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister, Nawab Aslam Raisani, sacked provincial minister for Environment, Ghulam Jan Baloch, of the Balochistan National Party (BNP-Awami), on Saturday.

Sources said the decision was taken on the request of the party’s high command. “Provincial Minister for Social Welfare, Mir Asghar Rind, who also belongs to BNP (Awami), has been assigned the portfolio of environment,” they added.

BNP (Awami) Secretary General, Asad Baloch, said that his colleagues had a meeting during which they expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of Jan and demanded his ouster.

He said the provincial cabinet of Balochistan was already swollen due to the presence of a large number of ministers. “Sacking a minister will, hopefully, help reduce its size,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention here that out of the total 64 members in the assembly, 49 have managed to get representation in the cabinet as ministers and advisers.

Jan is the fourth provincial minister to have been removed from the cabinet. Earlier, Ali Madad Jattak, Dr Irfan Karim and his wife Robina Irfan Karim had also been fired for similar reasons.

A criminal case of cheating was registered against Jattak on the directives issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Jattak was accused of presenting a bogus degree at the time of filing his nomination papers.
