Pakistan Press Foundation

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday reissued notices to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority and MQM chief Altaf Hussain on a petition seeking ban on the media coverage of Mr Hussain’s addresses/speeches.

Advocate Fayyaz Ahmad Mehar filed this petition and requested the court to restrain the media houses through Pemra from covering speeches of Mr Husain in future.

He said the respondent was a foreigner and claimed himself to be the chief of the MQM. He said the respondent on May 12 last addressed his party leaders and workers and threatened the election commission, establishment and media and politicians and also demanded separation of Karachi from Pakistan.

He said the demand of the respondent was not only against the Constitution but also the ideology of Pakistan.

On previous hearing, the court had sought replies from the respondents but all remained unrepresented on Wednesday. At this the court issued fresh notices for June 24.
