Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to set up its radio/television stations

ISLAMABAD- Allama lqbal Open University (AIOU) is planning to set up its own radio and television station for teaching purposes in order to promote quality education through distance learning system in the country.

AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Anwar Hussain Siddiqui said that the university has already applied for licence. He said the university is presently getting only one hour on Pakistan Television which is not enough to meet the requirements of the students and added that establishment of university’s own station for education purposes has become imperative for the students promotion of quality education.

In addition to other facilities, the VC said, “we also take the help of radio and television and audio and video cassettes”. He said the media section of the-‘ university has been set up a highly media centre with the help of UK and Japan which is capable of producing quality education films, radio programmes and audio and video cassettes. “These programmes are broadcast from radio and television both and cassettes are also sent to the students along with the books,” the Vice Chancellor said. “Now the university is planning to set up its own radio and television station where full educational programmes would be telecast,” he added.
