Aid campaign singer not satisfied with govt performance

By Peerzada Salman

KARACHI: Known vocalist Ali Haider has said there is no truth to reports that he is reverting to singing songs as a profession.

“I will only be reciting Hamd, Naat and Sufi verses,” he said while speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday.

He told mediapersons that his recent album titled Mehrban Mehrban comprised Hamd and Sufi poetry and he had dedicated it to the flash flood victims. The video of one of the duas in Mehrban Mehrban (written by renowned poet Hasan Akbar Kamal and composed by Farrukh Abid) is already on the air, and the next video of a dua written by Khwaja Pervaiz would soon hit the airwaves. He said through his album he had tried to motivate those who wished to help the flood-affected in any way.

Talking about the flood situation, Ali Haider criticised the rulers for not doing their job. Recalling the 2005 earthquake that jolted the northern areas of the country, he raised the question regarding the aid and assistance that poured into the country to alleviate the pain of the quake sufferers.

Touching upon his personal life, Ali Haider said he hadn’t been meeting a lot of people for the last one year because he had entered a certain ‘phase’ in his life. Thanking God he claimed now he’s out of that phase and wanted to use his fame in a positive manner. He apprised journalists that not too long ago he was offered to host the famous show Fear Factor and a project with Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, but after consulting his friends he declined the offer.

He said he’d come to the conclusion that the path that God had chosen for him had challenges of other kinds. He said he’d past that stage in his life where he wished to work alongside a film heroine. “I want to take my life and work forward.”

Ali Haider said he was entering into the designer wear business by opening an outlet in a mall on Tariq Road and the first Ali Haider brand could be seen on Thursday.
