AG has no knowledge of recovery of Pearl’s body

HYDERABAD- Advocate General of Sindh Raja Qureshi said on Friday that he had no knowledge about the recovery of the body of US journalist Daniel Pearl in Karachi.

Talking to newsmen after the hearing of the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reporter kidnap and murder case, he said, “I cannot comment on assumptions. Let something happen in reality”. He said he also had no idea who are the three suspects said to be arrested by Karachi police in connection with Daniel Pearl case.

When a journalist invited AG’s attention to a statement given by the defence terming the recovery of the body a drama by the prosecution, the chief prosecutor stated, “I would say it is a fabricated thing for the time being. This could be a product of the viewing of the videotape by the accused persons and the defence counsel shown to them three days ago.”

Abdul Waheed Katpar, the attorney of prime accused Sheikh Omar, stated in a lighter vein the body reportedly recovered by the police in Karachi was not that of Pearl but it could be his brother’s Junior Daniel.

Rai Bashir, the attorney of three co-accused persons, said if the police had recovered Pearl’s body the hearing in Hyderabad jail must be stopped because the case should be restarted when the police would submit a new challan.
