AEMEND Elects New Leadership for 2024-2026 Term, PM and Information Minister Offer Congratulations

On May 16, the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) held a general body meeting and elected its new office bearers for the 2024-2026 term.

Azhar Abbas of Geo News has been elected as President, with Tariq Mehmood of Samaa TV serving as the Secretary General. Other key positions were filled by Ayaz Khan of Express News as Senior Vice President, Mohammad Usman of Neo News as Vice President, and Rihan Ahmed of Hum News and Mian Tahir of 24 News as Joint Secretaries.

The Executive Committee will also include Mubarak Ali, Owais Iqbal, Muhammad Naushad, Ali Kamran Lashari, Mohsin Raza, Masoom Rizvi, Imad Yusuf, and Zahid Mazhar. During the meeting, several resolutions aimed at promoting the welfare of electronic media editors and news directors in Pakistan were passed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif  congratulated the newly elected officials of AEMEND. The PM emphasized the importance of their role in upholding freedom of expression, ensuring the stability of democracy, and highlighting social issues. He expressed hope that the new officials would fully commit to these responsibilities.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar also congratulated the newly elected AEMEND leadership,emphasizing the organization’s crucial role in journalism and broadcasting.He expressed hope that the new team would actively combat fake news in the country.
