Absar Alam attacked at ‘behest of two France-based individuals’: police report
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad police have submitted a report in the Supreme Court’s suo motu case regarding the protection for journalists.
According to the report, six people were involved in the attack on senior journalist Absar Alam and have been arrested. It further says that suspect Hammad Suleman confessed to attacking Alam at the behest of individuals living in France in exchange for money.
The report quoted the suspect as saying that he received the money from two France-based individuals, Shahnawaz and Mirza Zain Ghayas, through a bank.
It further says that an investigation report against the suspects was submitted on June 9, 2022, though they have not yet been indicted. Moreover, arrest warrants have also been issued for the suspects residing in France.
The police report also says that YouTuber Asad Toor was attacked at the behest of the same France-based individuals. Further investigations will be conducted following the arrest of these two suspects residing abroad, the report added.
Moreover, the case of the abduction of journalist Matiullah Jan was registered on his brother’s complaint; however, it is alleged that there has been no cooperation from the plaintiff’s side in the case.
On the other hand, there was no case registered in Islamabad by journalists Amir Mir and Imran Shafqat.
