Aaj TV correspondent shot dead in Mardan

PESHAWAR: The correspondent of Aaj TV and former president of Mardan Press Club, Siddique Bacha, was fatally wounded here when his opponents allegedly started shooting at him in Mardan district on Friday, police said.

Police said that Jahingaz Khan and Babar, sons of Tahir, allegedly sprayed a volley of bullets at Bacha when he was going to his office in the limits of Hoti police station on Friday morning.

Bacha’s brother Syed Zada, who accompanied him, narrowly escaped. Police said that old enmity was the motive behind the cold-blooded murder. Bacha was rushed to hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his critical injuries. Mardan police registered a case and started investigation.

The deceased leaves behind a seven-year-old son, three daughters, and the widow. Members of Mardan Press Club protested over the brutal killing of the journalist and demanded of the NWFP government to arrest the perpetrators. They also demanded compensation for the victim’s family. Later, Bacha was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard, amid touching scenes.
