Aaj reporter and cameraman injured

KARACHI (October 13 2008): Clash between two political groups in local college left seven injured including Aaj Tv reporter Osama and camera man Farhan Soomro here on Sunday. According to Aaj TV report, injuries took place after exchange of firing in a clash at a Swedish College, Quaidabad. The injured were taken to the Jinnah hospital.

Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah taking stern notice of the clash suspended the SHO of Quaidabad Police Station. He also ordered probe into the incident. Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Information, Ms. Shazia Marri said the government will extend every possible support to journalists in performing their duties.

She was visiting the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), here to inquire the well-being of Osama and Farhan Soomro, reporter and cameraman of Aaj channel, who had received injuries in a clash between two groups at Swedish Technical College, Quaidabad, here.

Later talking to media, she said the government would eliminate the culture of violence and gun from the educational institutions. Speaking about clash between two groups at Swedish Technical College, she said the incident will be investigated impartially and the negligent policemen, will be suspended.

The Minister was informed by the Capital City Police Officer, Karachi, who was present on the occasion, that the pre-admission entry test was organised at the Swedish Technical College, where an incident of exchange of firing between two groups took place.

Director, JPMC, Dr Seemi Jamali told the Minister that Farhan Soomro has received two bullets and surgery to remove the same was underway. The Information Minister directed the authorities concerned for provision of medical treatment to the journalists and other injured.

She also assured that the incident will be investigated and the culture of gun will be eliminated from the educational institutions. Sindh Governor, Dr. Ishrat-ul- Ebad Khan expressed sorrow over the clash between two groups in Swedish Technical College, Quaidabad here.

In a statement issued here, he said such incident in an educational institute was condemnable and shameful. Sindh Governor also directed the authorities concerned to take action against those responsible without any discrimination.

He said the educational institutions should be made safe of negative attitudes in all conditions and in this regard the co-operation of parents, teachers and students should also be obtained.

Dr. Ebad also directed for provision of every possible medical treatment to the injured. He said the elimination of extremism and terrorism should be a foremost priority of every individual in the society.
