A minor girl died of suffocation allegedly due to negligence of the police during a search operation carried out by the investigation police in which seven persons were arrested in Shah Nawaz Shar Goth, UC-12 within Sachal police station limits.

The police said that one suspect was held with stolen arms and the accused was nominated in the FIR. Residents, however, protested strongly against the police and blocked the road.

The residents said that they saw two to three police mobiles patrolling their area. At nearly 2a.m. in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, two policemen climbed down in the house of Shahid while two others stormed the house by breaking down the door, adding they confined him, his wife, sister-in-law and seven children in a room on ground floor. “Then, they searched my room and threw the articles around. As some quilts and others items fell on my 15-day-old daughter, Benazir, she died of suffocation”, Shahid alleged.

When contacted Station House Officer, S.M Gayoor, said that the raid was carried out by the staff of Investigation Police of Sachal Police Station. He added that an FIR was lodged by the authorities of Pak-Punjab Society against some accused persons saying that they broke into the locality and also snatched arms from the guards.

SHO Ghayoor maintained that on Wednesday the investigation police of Sachal Police Station conducted a raid at the Shah Nawaz Shar Goth and held wanted suspect Abdul Qadir. They also recovered .222 rilfe and repeaters from the held suspect. The SHO added that at the time of raid no person was present in the house expect for Qadir.

The SHO Sachal added that the locality was illegally occupied by the residents and most of the looted items were recovered from the locality, maintaining that no family member had approached the police for registration of the case as yet.
