7 booked for ‘honour killingÂ’

JHANG: Police have registered a murder case against seven persons who tortured a man to death over an ‘honour’ issue.

Safdar of the Mukhtarabad locality was caught when he was intruding in the house of Saeed Khan of the same locality on Monday night. Khan’s family and neighbours dubbed him a thief and tortured him severely before handing him over to Sadar police.

The police sent Safdar to the district jail on a judicial remand without taking into consideration his serious injuries. Safdar died in the jail on Thursday morning. His body was handed over to his family after an autopsy.

In the meantime, Safdar’s brother Akhtar filed a petition in the court of the district and sessions judge for registration of a murder case against those who tortured him to death.

The court ordered an inquiry, which showed Safdar was not a thief. Instead, he had an affair with KhanÂ’s sister and was caught when he went to her house to see her.

In the light of the inquiry, a murder case has been registered against Saeed Khan, Zulfiqar, Falak Sher, Nazir and three unidentified persons on the orders of the court.
