LAHORE: The Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop held a press conference on Wednesday to announce the beginning of their flagship annual 3rd International Film Festival.

The festival will showcase 64 films in categories ranging from feature film (fiction), feature documentary film, short film (fiction), short documentary film, animation and experimental/art film.

Works of young directors from Russia, Pakistan, UAE, France, Australia and Germany will be screened at the three-day festival.

All the films are made by young people and are not commercial in any way. The films being showcased include an interesting selection of art house, independent and alternative films, which step away from the mainstream and provide a truly intriguing journey.

“These young directors have done a very good job with these films. It is very encouraging to see them come up with such a good work,” Usman Peerzada told the media.

The films that will be screened at the festival have been chosen from approximately 250 films from 35 countries.

The films encompass various aspects of human life and allow the viewers a glimpse into different cultures, thoughts, socio-political realities and activities of different people of the world.

Through these films, the film festival also provides a closer look at the advances being made in contemporary cinema around the world.

The film extravaganza will include highly educating as well as entertaining visual statements by some great minds in the international filmmaking industry.

Usman Peerzada also said that the Rafi Peer Theatre was dedicating the film festival to Faizaan Peerzada. “We will pay a tribute to Faizaan Peerzada on the last day of the festival, as December 21 also marks his death anniversary.”

He added, “Faizaan’s motive was to promote arts, culture and films; hence, we will take this forward in his memory.”

Earlier, the Rafi Peer Theatre held the 10th Sanjh Festival in Amritsar and Delhi as a tribute to Faizaan. The 3rd International Film Festival will continue for three days from December 19 to 21 at Alhamra, and will also showcase a Pakistan film poster exhibition and live music entertainment.

Saadan Peerzada and Tasneem Peerzada were also present at the press conference.

The three-day festival is being held in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and Alhamra Arts Council.
