29 prostitutes, clients arrested

LAHORE: Wahdat Colony Police on early Wednesday arrested 29 couples from a rest house in the Muslim Town Police precincts ‘for involvement in prostitution’.

Wahdat Road Police officials told Daily Times that they raided the restaurant in search of some proclaimed offenders and found the suspects in ‘compromising position’. Police claimed the arrested were drunk and bottles of wine were also seized from various couples. The Wahdat Road Police station house officer (SHO) said Basharat Baig, manager of the hotel, and another employee were also arrested.

However, legal experts term the police raid against the law. Azhar Siddique advocate said, according to the Women’s Protection Act, police could not interfere in the personal lives of the public. He added that under the act, police could not raid any restaurant or hotel.
