2,722 HR cases reported to Law Ministry in 2006

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights received 2,722 complaints of human rights violation from all over the country last year. This information was provided to the Senate by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights on Thursday in response to a question from Senator Liaquat Ali Bungalzai. He did not say what action the ministry took against the people involved in these violations.

Sindh topped the list with 272 complaints of human rights violations, followed by Punjab with 251 complaints, NWFP with 53, Balochistan with 51, and Islamabad with 10 complaints.

City-wise, the most cases were from Karachi (141), followed by Lahore (75), Quetta (35), Rawalpindi (33), Peshawar (22) and Sanghar (18). No cases of human rights violation were reported from Khushab district of Punjab; DI Khan, Charsadda, Shangla, Karak, Timergrah, Bunner, Mansehra and Swat districts of NWFP; or Awaran, Barkhan, Chaghi, Killa Saifullah, Kalat, Kohlu, Nasirabad, Dera Murad Jamali, Noshki, Panjgur, Sibi, Gwadar, Jaffarabad, Jhel Magsi, Chamman, Khuzdar, Bolan, Pishin and Ziarat of Balochistan.
