130 women among 2,822 Ulema trained on population issues

ISLAMABAD, April 19 2006: The Population Welfare Ministry has trained 2,822 Ulema, including 130 women, to play the role as opinion makers in the society on population issues, sources said on April 18 imparting training to Ulema is reflective of the Ministry’s approach to educate people on health issues for the country’s prosperity, they said.

“Given our society’s structure, the decision to include Ulema, especially women, in the population awareness campaign is a welcoming step, which would give impetus to the campaign”, they added .Orientation of Ulema, sensitisation of elected representatives of federal , provincial and local governments through workshops is an effectives through workshops is an effective tool have tangible results.

Sources said that during the training the Ministry ensured that no UnIslamic recourse was resorted to, or no approach contrary to the social values was policies on population control. They said that this approach would help build confidence among the targeted segment of the society.
