10,000 children being forced to work in Larkana

LARKANA: Ten thousand children are working under forced labour while 3000 street children are living in Larkana City. It was disclosed by speakers at a seminar conducted by the Child Rights Committee here in Larkana in a local hotel.

The committee was observing the international Children Day. The seminar was addressed by local intellectuals, writers and people belonging to different walks of life.

While addressing the seminar Syed Javed Shah said that 42000 children were being deprived of their inherent right of education in the district. Whereas, 10,000 children are working under forced labour, he further said adding “3000 children are loitering in the streets, falling victim to various social abuses.” Abdul Kareem Leghari, a sixth grader, told the participants that parents forced their children to work due to poverty which was totally illegal.
