‘Sindh govt to arrange dowry for poor girls’

It is responsibility of the Sindh government to take necessary steps so that girls of poor families could be married off, he directed the concerned officials while presiding over a high-level meeting at the Governor’s House. He asked to utilise all available funds for public welfare in a coordinated manner. Dr Ebad said services of a consultant would be hired to adopt a transparent system in this regard. “Under this system actual funds will be invested and its profit would be used to fulfil needs of the deserving people,” he added.

Sindh Senior Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed, Finance Adviser M A Jalil, Principal Secretary Saleem Khan, Finance Secretary, Secretary Zakat & Auqaf and other officials attended the meeting convened to review strategy to help needy and unprivileged people of the province. The governor emphasised on result-oriented steps by seeking cooperation from private organisations and philanthropists. He also ordered to seek cooperation of institutions organising mass marriages and asked to patronise them. He asked to extend services of these institutions in far-flung areas of the province so that not a single family could face this problem.

He told the officials if system would be transparent it would gain public confidence and also blessings of Allah. Quoting example of ‘The Legend Trust’, he said the trust is receiving appreciation, owing to transparency. He deplored that Zakat and other funds lapsed only because of mismanagement. The governor assured that he would recommend the federal government to raise financial help for deserving people from Zakat funds.
He directed to extend these services across the province so that people living in distant areas and villages could be facilitated. He stressed upon involving sugar mills and other industrial and trade organizations in the welfare activities.
