‘Nawa-i-Waqt’s role in Pak Movement unforgettable’

KARACHI — Speakers from various walks of life have paid rich tribute to the founder of Nawa-i-Waqt, Hameed Nizami, for his great services rendered to Quaid-e-Azam and Pakistan Movement, and said that Nawa-i-Waqt had played a great role in moulding public opinion towards Muslim League and Pakistan Movement.

“Media is one of the most important pillars of the state, while Nawa-i-Waqt newspaper has played immense role in the promotion of freedom of media. Nawa-i-Waqt is the only newspaper that has upheld Nazria-e-Pakistan in the country,” the speakers said while speaking at a seminar held at Arts Council, jointly organised by Nawa-i-Waqt Group and Arts Council on Sunday to remember the grand services of Hameed Nizami.

Renowned TV artist Dr Huma Mir and Rashid Noor conducted the seminar. Those who spoke on the occasion included Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed of Jamat-e-Islami, Vice Chancellor Karachi University Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Prof Sehar Ansari, Bashir Ahmed Jhumra, Zia Abbas, Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Karachi Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, Ghazi Salauddin of MQM, Yousuf Khan, Rana Ashfaq Rasool, Ahmed Shah and Humaira Rahat. Justice (Retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui said that Nizami had issued Nawa-i-Waqt newspaper on the directives of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and at that time Nawa-i-Waqt was the only newspaper which was supporting the Pakistan Movement and its leaders.

Talking on the recent economic and political issues of the country, he said that Pakistan was suffering power shortage, which was a massive threat to the economy of the country. He expressed serious concerns over the increasing rate of crime in the country and said that people were feeling insecure. He said that people of Pakistan had set their eyes on media and judiciary for the survival of the country and these two institutions would not disappoint them at any cost.

Paying rich tributes to the founder of the newspaper, Prof Ghafoor Ahmed said that Pakistani nation cannot forget the services of this great journalist and worker of Pakistan Movement.

Prof Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said, “We are gathered here to remember the services of the giant journalist, who paves the way of freedom for the country by supporting the great leaders of Pakistan. There are three main objectives of Nawa-i-Waqt, including bringing Pakistan on the way of progress, to promote national unity and create provincial harmony in the country.”

Prof Sehar Ansari said when Quaid-e-Azam was alone on the target of Hindu media, Nizami started supporting the Quaid and his great Movement.

Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said that personality and services of the great journalist was really immortal. He said that Nawa-i-Waqt is the promoter of the theories of Quaid-e-Azam and ideas of Allama Iqbal. Zia Abbas said that Nizami was great man and he moulded public opinion towards Nazria-e-Pakistan and Pakistan Movement. He also applauded the efforts of Chairman Nawa-i-Waqt Majid Nizami in terms of creating awareness about Nazria-e-Pakistan among the masses.

Ghazi Salaudin said that media was the real opposition, playing vital role to make things straight. He said that media played a vital role to create pressure on the government not to hand over Raymond Davis to the USA. On the occasion, Bashir Ahmed Jhumra highlighted the history of the creation of Nawa-i-Waqt. Yousuf Khan, Rana Ashfaq Rasool, Ahmed Shah and Humaira Rahat also spoke on the occasion.
