‘Role of media vital in war on terror’

Karachi: Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh on Information, Jameel Ahmed Soomro has said that terrorism is not only an issue of Pakistan but the whole world is faced with it.

He was speaking as chief guest at the closing session of a seminar on “The role of Media in War on Terrorism here on Monday. “The only difference is that we are fighting the war on terrorism on our land for world peace”, he said.

Soomro said that terrorists were losing the ground and to weaken the morale of the government and armed forces, they were committing suicide attacks in Peshawar, Lahore and other cities and killing innocent citizens. The whole nation was sad about these terrorist acts, but the government and the morale of the people is high and they are committed to root out terrorism and extremism.

The adviser said that the print and electronic media were playing an important role in a critical situation and the nation saluted the journalists who were performing their duties fearlessly and crating awareness against terrorism. He stated that terrorists have nothing to do with Islam and humanity.

The adviser said that those who attacked religious places of worship and killed innocent men, women and children, cannot be shown any leniency. The entire nation was with the democratic government and armed forces against the war on terrorism, he declared.
