‘Married’ girl sent back to Darul Amaan

LAHORE: Justice Tariq Shamim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday sent a teenage girl back to Darul Amaan after she refused to live with her grandmother.

The judge had summoned the girl on a petition by her maternal grandmother, Bashiran Bibi, seeking her custody from the Darul Amaan administration.

In her petition, Bashiran submitted that her grand daughter, Hina Akram, married one Muhammad Sheraz without informing her parents. She said that her father forcibly detained her in his house to bar her from living with her husband. On a habeas corpus petition of her father-in-law, the LHC recovered Hina from her father’s house and sent her to Darul Amaan and she had been living there since then.

Bashiran claimed that Hina wanted to live with her and sought her custody. She said that her husband had already divorced her.

Appearing before the court on Monday, Hina submitted that she did not want to live with her parents or her grandmother. She said that she did not believe that her husband had divorced her.

The judge also directed the Darul Amaan administration to provide medical facility to her whenever it was required.
