Zia Mohyeddin to recite Faiz
LAHORE: Internationally known actor, writer and anchor person Zia Mohyeddin will recite Faiz Ahmed Faiz`s poetry at the Ali Institute, Ferozepur Road, on the evening of Dec 31, as curtain raiser of the poet`s centenary celebrations that will continue throughout the next year.
Moneeza Hashmi told Dawn the evening would be followed by a music album launch in the second week of January by Tina Sani; the first by the singer to be based on Faiz`s poetry.
She said that in connection with the celebrations a number of programmes would be held in February, next year. These programmes will include a book launch at Alhamra Art Centre on Feb 11. The book going to be launched is based on the letters Faiz wrote to his wife, Alys, from jail. Same day an international poetry sitting will be held at the Governor`s House. An International colloquium and book launch will be held on Feb 12 at LUMS.
The Faiz Aman Mela will be held on Feb 13 the venue for which has yet to be decided. The same evening Tina Sani will sing Faiz at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall.
Ms Hashmi said in India and other countries dates had been fixed by the committees formed at the government level as well as privately to celebrate the poet`s centenary celebrations.
