Zaeef’s family asks Pearl’s captors not to use his name

ISLAMABAD- The family of former Afghan ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef has condemned the kidnapping of US journalist Daniel Pearl urging the kidnappers to immediately release him.

“We are at a loss to understand as to why the kidnappers have demanded the release of Mulla Abdul Salam Zaeef, when we have nothing to do with the kidnapping of Daniel Pearl,” the family told the sources.

They said that demands of the kidnappers for release of Abdul Salam Zaeef would not only tarnish the image of his family, rather it would create problems for the former Afghan envoy. The family sources of Zaeef said that kidnapping of an innocent person irrespective of his nationality was against the traditions of the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan. There is no provision in Islam for such wrongdoings.

The family regretted that the kidnappers have used the name of the former Afghan ambassador to achieve their nefarious designs. The family appealed to those behind the kidnapping of the American journalist not to use the name of Mulla Zaeef for the fulfilment of their nefarious designs. The family appealed to the US to immediately release Mulla Abdul Salam Zaeef as he has not committed any crime and his hands are clean.
